The Shelburne Harbour Yacht Club (SHYC) will be hosting the 10th annual East Coast Albacore Championships August 24 – 26, 2018. Co-founders Guy Tipton, Henry Pedro, and Wayne King are pleased to announce the anniversary event which will be held over three days, beginning with a Friday evening tune up race, followed by a full schedule of racing on Saturday and Sunday.

Albacores“One Design high performance dinghy sailing is the most accessible point of sailing.” says Tipton. “It’s great to see adults and kids alike pulling on their wet suits and racing against each other.”

Participation and interest is expected to be especially high for the ECAC’s this year as Shelburne has been awarded the 2019 Albacore Internationals – a marquee event which will be bringing in teams from around the sailing world. Several boats will be coming to Shelburne and the ECAC’s this year in preparation.

The success of the of the ECAC’s has helped to galvanize interest and participation in the Albacore fleet locally, as well as bringing in top sailors from the US and Canada. The Albacore continues to be one of the most widely sailed and raced dinghies in the country. The SHYC and the community of Shelburne are looking forward to hosting another great weekend of sailboat racing in 2018!

Around the MarkerEstablished in 1903, the SHYC proudly occupies facilities at the edge of the town’s Historic Waterfront District, as part of the Muir-Cox Shipyard Museum Complex. The SHYC building is also home to the Osprey Arts Centre. There have been extensive improvements to the club’s facilities in recent years. Shelburne is a popular arrival and departure point for yachts heading to and from the US East Coast and the flags of various nations can often be seen. This is a very friendly club and well worth a visit whether you arrive by land or sea.

Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
