2017 Optimist North American Champs Coming to Toronto
Jan 25, 2017
This June more than 150 Optimist sailors from over 20 countries will be launching their boats from the Toronto Islands as they compete in the week-long 2017 Optimist North American Championship.
Canada and the Royal Canadian Yacht Club (RCYC) have been selected to host this annual youth regatta by the International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA). Regatta co-chairs and RCYC members, Kimberly Cudney and Felicity Rodness, look forward to working with the Canadian Optimist Dinghy Association (CODA), the sailing community at RCYC and neighbouring yacht clubs to welcome the world’s best Optimist sailors.
The Optimist is one of the world’s most popular sailing dinghies for sailors under the age of 16. Youth athletes in over 120 countries race the Optimist Dinghy, with more than 200,000 registered boats worldwide.
CODA is the national association responsible for the regulation and development of Optimist sailing in Canada. CODA is a member nation of IODA.
