One Great Lake, One Giant Screen: Sail In Cinema August 18-20 2016

Sail In Cinema

Aug 9, 2016

PortsToronto presents Sail-In Cinema™, the world’s first two-sided floating movie experience of it’s kind.

On August 18-20, 2016 Canada’s Sugar Beach will transform into Toronto’s largest outdoor movie theatre. Movies will be shown under the open skies on a two-sided screen set atop a barge in Toronto Harbour. You can watch movies for free from Sugar Beach or Lake Ontario, and this year there are no tickets required to attend.

Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. each night with the film starting at approximately 8:00 p.m.

If you’ve got your sea legs, you can come to the movies by boat and drop anchor.

If you’re a landlubber, bring a chair, a cushion or a picnic blanket.

Think Sail-In Cinema™ sounds like an awesome event? You’re not the only one. Sail-In Cinema™ won Gold at Marketing Magazine’s Marketing Awards for best Experiential/Stunts/Events initiative of 2011 as well as Silver for best in Commercial Services at the Media Innovation Awards and a Certificate of Merit for advertising from the The Advertising & Design Club of Canada in 2012.

The inaugural Sail-In Cinema™ was held in 2011 to mark PortsToronto centennial year. Sail-In-Cinema 2015 was the largest on record with over 11,000 people on-land and over 100 boats in attendance over three days.

Sail-In Cinema™ is now a permanent fixture on Toronto’s summer calendar.

While Sail-In Cinema is a free event, there is limited seating on the landside and entry is subject to availability of space. Boat mooring will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Non-stop activities, food and entertainment will once again be offered by event sponsors prior to the start of each night’s feature film to provide a full evening of fun for all ages.

The Best of Two Worlds

By Mathew Channer

Interior British Columbia might not be as famous for recreational boating as Canada’s Great Lakes, yet it is no less a world-class boating destination. The mountains offer their own flavour of marine adventure with their series of long, deep ribbon lakes, and there is perhaps no area that embodies this more uniquely than the iconic Okanagan basin in southern B.C. One could be forgiven for assuming this valley was purpose-built for nautical fun, with a few delightful perks thrown in to make the area entirely irresistible (wine-tasting, anyone?).
