Saturday, June 11th, 2016 from 10am – 7pm, Midland, Ontario. Boat up to the town dock or stroll on in.

Each year tens of thousands of visitors flock to Midland, Ontario to taste the best of the best butter tarts in the province. This butter tart contest draws professional and home bakers from all over the province to compete for the title ‘Best Butter Tart in Ontario’. Over the years, audiences have come to love watching the butter tart contest, tasting along with our panel of judges so they too can be a part of the experience.

Along with the contest comes a day of sweet activities. This year’s festival includes the Tart Trot, a 5km or 10km run with a 1km run for kids, beginning at St.Marie Among the Hurons. View all details of the Trot here.

Lots of fantastic artisan vendors and live entertainment fill the day, making it a great experience for festival visitors. Ontario’s Best Butter Tart Festival is committed to showing our attendees a good time, and inviting visitors to experience all of the great attractions our region has to offer.

Did You Know?

The earliest published recipe for butter tarts comes from Simcoe County! The oldest recorded butter tart recipe can be found in Women’s Auxiliary of Royal Victoria Hospital Cookbook, published in Barrie, Ontario, 1900.
