Oceans of Nautical Fun for Little Mariners at Seattle Boat Show

Complimentary activities include toy boat building, block and tackle tug of war, aqua paddlers, sailing dinghy rigging, scavenger hunt, test trampoline, nautical photo booth, movies and more

From stand up paddleboards to superyachts and everything in between, there’s lots for all the boaters in the family to take in at the Seattle Boat Show.  But the show is not just for mom and dad to shop for the boat of their dreams or attend one of 200+ free seminars. There’s also a special Kids Zone at the indoor location at CenturyLink Field Event Center with tons of free activities for kids of all ages.  On the water at South Lake Union there are free boat rides and a Chowder Chomp.

The show drops anchor on Friday Jan. 29 and sails on through Sunday Feb. 6, 2016. The show’s not the only thing that’s family-friendly, so is the price! Kids under 11 are free, youth 11-17 get in for $5, and there are many online ticket packages with bonuses such as $2 weekend parking (compliments of BECU) and magazine subscriptions at www.SeattleBoatShow.com

Kids Zone at CenturyLink Field Event Center

Aqua Paddlers:  Kids can enjoy time on the water using the Aqua Paddler paddle boats. Life jackets will be provided. (Daily)

Sailing Dinghy Rigging: Kids can sit in an actual sailing dinghy, lower and raise the sails and learn how rigging works. (Daily)

Block and Tackle Tug of War: There is more to winning than strength when it comes to block and tackle tug of war. With this fun exercise kids will learn about mechanical advantage, how to use it, and how it works on boats. (Daily)

Toy Boat Building: Using traditional tools supplied by The Center for Wooden Boats, kids can build and decorate their own wooden boat. (Monday – Friday 4 – 8 p.m.; Saturday(s) 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.)

Clay Boat Buoyancy Challenge:  Kids can build their own clay boat with instructors from Sail Sand Point and then learn about buoyancy by testing how much weight it will hold before sinking. (Daily)

Marine Arts and Crafts: Join the staff of Beach Camp at Sunset Bay and build a sea lion, create a jellyfish, discover sharks, and match up sea skeletons. (Daily)
