Raymarine Brings Canadian Sportfishing Television Celebrity Italo Labignan Onboard with Dragonfly

Italo Labignon

Raymarine has announced the addition of Canadian Sportfishing television host Italo Labignan to its Pro Staff of Canadian anglers. Labignan will join a number of fishermen who represent Raymarine and its new line of Dragonfly CHIRP sonar products.

On the air since 1986, Labignan has earned the reputation of being one of the most accomplished professional anglers in the industry. He has unparalleled knowledge regarding recreational sport fishing in Canada and beyond.

“Because Italo is such an industry pro, we’re thrilled to have him represent our new lineup of Dragonfly products” said Grégoire Outters, Vice President and General Manager of FLIR Maritime.  “The Dragonfly’s advanced CHIRP DownVision™ and wireless mobile device integration will fuel Italo’s already impressive 30-year career as a professional and will change his view of the underwater world.”

A leap into the future of sonar, Dragonfly DownVision™ sonars employ true wide-spectrum CHIRP technology.  This allows the Dragonfly to transmit more sonar signals with each pulse, enabling fishermen to target more fish and image structure with unmatched clarity.  With the recent introduction of Dragonfly 4 and 5, Raymarine now has a complete family of CHIRP DownVision™ Sonar systems for every angler, including models with GPS and mapping.  Dragonfly equipment will be used extensively in the 2016 Canadian Sportfishing TV Series.

“Catching fish consistently is made a lot easier if you know what attracts the fish below the surface, like weeds, drop-offs, and baitfish,” said Labignan. “No matter if I’m fishing walleye on the bottom, searching for salmon and trout in the Great Lakes, looking for bass, or fishing the ocean, I rely on the most accurate and easy-to-use fishfinder you can buy, the Raymarine Dragonfly.”

As I shift our chartered canal boat into neutral, I’m soothed by the soundtrack of bird calls, the occasional plaintive horn of a distant train and the hum of our engine.

I reach for the VHF to radio the lockmaster in charge of Erie Canal’s Lock 32 dead ahead. Our boat spins gently in the current like a maple key in a mud puddle.

“This is Onondaga,” I say. “Headed westbound and requesting passage.”
