Shelter Island Adds Travel Lift, Expands Services

Shelter Island Marina has acquired the 150-ton Travel Lift from nearby Bracewell Marine Group and has expanded their marine services. Shelter Island is a full-service marina with a dedicated wash bay with the latest filtration and water-cleaning systems and a number of associated service providers. Services include boat cleaning and detailing, bottom painting, full mechanical, electrical and electronic systems installation and repair, and shipwright services in wood, fiberglass, steel and aluminum.

There is probably more misinformation about fuel than any other current boating topic. (See CY Dec 2012 for a review of decommissioning advice). Gasoline with ethyl alcohol added (E-10 nomenclature means there is 10 percent ethyl alcohol in the mix, the most common formulation for mid-grade gas) is actually a good fuel when temperatures drop as the alcohol will absorb quantities of water that enter fuel tanks. However, once the alcohol is saturated, water will remain a separated liquid that may make running difficult, if not impossible next season.

National Bank Easter Seals Waves Regatta set to go June 34, 24 at Royal Vancouver Yacht Club

This year’s charity sailing event will feature one weekend of competitive Keelboat and Dinghy racing in English Bay as well as the recreational Easter Seals Cup race. Almost 200 boats participated last year and this year event organizers are hoping for close to 300 boats to take part. The post race festivities offer a chance for all participants to kick back and relax after the first full day of racing.

Active Interest Media (AIM) Marine Group held their Inaugural Editor’s Choice Awards on Friday October 26, 2012 during the 53rd Annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show where the group honored Madame Annette Bénéteau-Roux with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
