Industry Mourns the Loss of Ross Richardson

alt

True North Yachts founding partner Ross Bryden Richardson, passed away peacefully at 9:50pm on Monday November 14th at Princess Margaret Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Ross was not an observer of life but rather one of its most active participants. He amazed everyone with his determination to win this fight and participated in both sporting and social events right up to the very end. His sense of good humour was evident in everything he did. His wife, Kimberly and daughter, Gwyneth have a legacy of wonderful experiences and stories about him that can be shared with his legion of good friends and family members. Few people have the opportunity to prepare a bucket list of things to do in their lifetime and not only complete the list but in doing so motivate so many others to move along life’s path with increased thoughtfulness and vigour. Ross is the kind of individual of whom legends are made and who, in his 50th year, became a role model to his business associates, employees, family and especially for his many friends who knew him well and who will now never be able to miss him as long as his memory and dynamism are safely lodged within them.

As a partner in True North Yachts he truly grew to love the boating industry. His vision and determination made the firm the success it is today. His leadership will be missed but he will never be forgotten by any of us who knew him. His legacy and dreams live on within us all. Please consider joining us for the celebration of his amazing life at Christ Church Deer Park (Anglican) Church, 1570 Yonge Street, Toronto for a memorial service on Friday, November 18th at 1:30 P.M. On-line condolences and information are available at www.etouch.ca. Instead of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Ross to the Max and Beatrice Wolfe Centre for Children’s Grief and Palliative Care, Mount Sinai Hospital, Joseph and Wolf Lebovic Building, 60 Murray Street, 4th Floor, Box #13, Toronto, ON, M5T 3L9.

The Erie Canal – An Extraordinary Waterway

By Mark Stevens

As I shift our chartered canal boat into neutral, I’m soothed by the soundtrack of bird calls, the occasional plaintive horn of a distant train and the hum of our engine.

I reach for the VHF to radio the lockmaster in charge of Erie Canal’s Lock 32 dead ahead. Our boat spins gently in the current like a maple key in a mud puddle.

“This is Onondaga,” I say. “Headed westbound and requesting passage.”
