Guelph couple wins Mariposa Cruises’ $15,000 on board wedding contest prize!

Wedding Contest Couple

The wedding dreams of Guelph couple David Kellman and Crystal Roy came true this week when Mariposa Cruises announced they had won its Facebook contest prize, a $15,000 wedding on the water. The couple has chosen to be married this year aboard Mariposa Cruises’ beautiful Klancy II.

Crystal, originally from Brampton, met David almost five years ago by chance at Guelph bar, Trappers Alley. They hit it off right away and as the saying goes – the rest is history. The couple were engaged in November 2012, but thought they would only be able to afford a small wedding – until now.

“The day I found out, I was laughing and crying at the same time. I couldn’t hold my phone still to show David the announcement from Mariposa Cruises,” said Crystal Roy. “We are so happy and excited!”

The wedding prize package accommodates up to 50 guests aboard a Mariposa ship of the couples’ choice, plus all the bells and whistles like dinner, a wedding planner, photographer, invitations, décor, flowers, live music, DJ, cake, chocolate truffles – even the wedding gown!

“Mariposa Cruises has been hosting weddings on Toronto’s Harbourfront for more than 25 years and what better way to celebrate that than by giving someone the wedding of their dreams!” said Cindi Vanden Heuvel, Vice President of Mariposa Cruises.

The couple have decided to be married this summer aboard the beautiful Klancy II, which was built in 1989 in St. Thomas.

Sailing into the Future at Antigua Sailing Week

By Mathew Channer

“Standby tack,” Canadian sailor Katy Campbell orders. The crew scrambles over the sheet lines and braces on the deck.

“Three, two, one, tack!”

I wait until the bow turns into the wind and the headsail snaps over, then crawl over the cabin top of Panacea X to the now windward side. The trim team smoothly sheets on the headsail and a competitor vessel shoots past our stern, feet away, as our Solana 45 beats eastward along Antigua’s south coast.
