Beach? Check. Boating? Check. Your summer to-do list, all checked off.

There’s a special place near Toronto where spectacular yachting and luxury living come together. A one-of-a-kind community teeming with people who enjoy the finer things in life. Some call it Friday Harbour; others simply call it paradise.

Experience the rush of cool as you dip your toes in the water. The calming sound of paddles as they caress the waves. The never-ending search for sand-covered shells and new memories. That’s the allure of Lake Simcoe. As Ontario’s fourth largest lake, Lake Simcoe is a body of water that beckons the soul. Once named Ouentironk, meaning beautiful water, it’s at the Friday Harbour All Seasons Resort that one comes to truly appreciate the nautical beauty.
With a 1,000-slip Marina featuring two private islands with approximately 300 townhomes, the freedom to enjoy Lake Simcoe and the Trent-Severn Waterway is at your doorstep. Use the 40-acre marina as your starting point for cruising the lake, fishing, waterskiing and more. The freedom of being at one with your vessel and the open water is exhilarating. Plan a daytrip from the Friday Harbour marina and take your nautical adventure wherever the winds of chance take you. Boat close to land and enjoy gazing at all the cottages and homes that dot the shoreline, or head out into the middle of the lake and experience the vastness of nature with a clear view of the horizon in all directions.

The marina has been specially designed to accommodate a variety of vessels, from runabouts to 100-foot cruisers, and is suitable for boaters of all skill levels. Or take to water at the Beach Club: a state-of-the-art facility with canoes, kayaks, sailboats, paddleboards and other watercraft.

Just 45 minutes from the Greater Toronto Area – or a 90-minute GO train ride – Friday Harbour sets a new standard for easily accessible vacation living in Ontario. Breathe in the fresh morning air as you enjoy the beautiful sunrise, while the tranquil sound of gentle waves patter against your boat. Join the whole community for a party on the lake while the summer sun warms your soul. Or wait until nightfall and take the family out for stargazing like they’ve never seen before.
There are only a few months a year we can devote our days to the outdoors. From the early bursts of sunshine to time spent basking in all the heat and happenings, the summer months are a welcome break from the everyday.

Infusing fun with relaxation, the master-planned resort community boasts an invigorating blend of natural greenery and urban amenity. Walk along Lake Simcoe’s shoreline and there you’ll be greeted by boating neighbours, high-flying water skiers and splashing swimmers.

Exceptionally designed and absolutely spectacular, the area allows guests of all ages to embrace their favourite beachside pastimes. Incorporating nuances of some the world’s finest waterfront destinations, you can spend your mornings soaking in the rays and your afternoons staying cool in the water.

Gone fishing

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of a cool breeze on a hot summers’ day as you cruise around the marina on your yacht. Enjoy the time by yourself or surround yourself with loved ones; it’s guaranteed to be a great time.

From the Friday Harbour Pier or out on the open water, Lake Simcoe is the perfect place to enjoy a day of casting bait and reeling them in. With Lake Simcoe’s reputation for some of the best fishing in the province year round, spring and summer bring ways to enjoy the early morning sunshine on the lake.

Each year, staff from the Ministry of Natural Resources stock Lake Simcoe with 150,000 whitefish and 100,000 trout, along with the smallmouth bass, yellow perch, largemouth bass, northern pike, black crappie, walleye, brown bullhead, bowfin, carp, rock bass, white suckers and rainbow smelt that populate its waters. This wide variety of lake life means you never know what you’re going to get as you reel in your catch, making for an exciting yet leisurely day on the water.

Amongst the paths and hidden walkways, watch on as wildlife interact in their natural habitat. Camp out by the deep pond reservoirs, or enjoy afternoon hikes along a stretch of beautifully manicured walking trails.

Summer comes into full swing at the Marina Village. The 40-acre boating playground is host to a wealth of activity. With shops and bistros at every corner, you can shop for the perfect beach cover-up or sip your signature drink as you watch boats dock on the marina, patio-side.

Although Friday Harbour is a great place for relaxing, there is also a lot of space for getting active. Discover Friday Harbour’s Beach and Tennis Club. From seasonal water activities to an outdoor playing field equipped for soccer, baseball and Frisbee, each state-of-the-art facility will remind you how exhilarating summer days are meant to be.
At the heart of summer and Friday Harbour is the golfer’s paradise, The Nest. This picturesque course designed by Doug Carrick is 18 holes of world-class sportsmanship and lush greenery. Early morning tee offs give early birds a truly scenic view, with a visually rich and intriguing landscape of dips and hollows, rises and ridges and ever-changing elevations.
Collectively, the Friday Harbour team has created a destination that will be the most accessible premier resort in Ontario. A place where those who enjoy the finer things in life can get more of it: sunlight, nightlife, and the extraordinary bliss of downtime without the downtime. It’s a visionary and ambitious undertaking, complemented by an extraordinary team of visionary minds.

Whether you want to golf or get out on the lake and use the marina, spend hours in the nature reserve, play tennis or simply visit friends over lunch or dinner, there are so many things here you can do. Friday Harbour is designed as a destination for Ontarians and people from all over the world, not just the residents who buy real estate here. There is truly nowhere else like it.

New Boats: Beneteau Oceanis 34.1 – A Sleek, Good -Looking Delight To Sail

By Katherine Stone

There is nothing more that I enjoy than being with friends and messing about in boats. Messing about in brand-new boats on a champagne sailing day on Lake Ontario at the beginning of the summer doesn’t get any better. To have the new owner, Helmuth Strobel and Anchor Yachts dealer Pancho Jimenez aboard made it even more special, as they can also speak to what they truly enjoy about the boat. We keep our own boat in a harbour that has a long waiting list for boats over 35 feet, so this little gem would definitely fit the bill and feels like a much bigger boat. True to the spirit of the 7th generation Oceanis line, the 34.1 is built in Poland and replaces the 35.1. It is 1,000 lbs lighter, 14 cm narrower and has 29% more sail area.
