Ultra Fast Towel Drive

Over the past several weeks Canadian Yachting staff have spent some time reviewing two products that are great additions to anyone’s collection but also of particular interest to boaters.

Ultra Fast-Dry Towel

This lightweight towel from Discovery Trekking is surprisingly versatile.  Boaters are always looking to save space, stay dry and save on laundry.  Well this ultra fast-dry towel hits all of the highlights in accomplishing just that.  We tried out the large towel in several situations, boating, showering at home and utility.

Here is what is cool about this particular towel:

– swimming from boat, jump back in and you can have it stored right in a dry case or glove compartment; it’s at the ready

– showering at home – works as effectively as a full-sized towel without the bulk

– dries in a flash, either on the line, hanging from the rigging on your boat or on a hook in your bathroom

– Silver Salt antimicrobial technology – won’t generate a musty smell

– SPF sun protection

– large enough to wrap around you

– extremely light weight

– great selection of colours and sizes

The towel works by wicks the moisture away from your skin and then disperses the water over the surface area of the towel which allows it to evaporate more quickly.

Poop Off Bird Poop Remover – Non-Toxic and Biodegradable

Seagull

Well you have to admit the name at least draws attention to this cleaning product.  This non-toxic and biodegradable cleaning solution is perfect for boaters, but because boaters are also home and cottage owners, it’s great for everyone.

What does it do?

– Boaters:  Poop Off removes droppings from all types of avian diets including seed, fruit, nuts, meat, vegetables, nectar, bugs, grains, formulated diets, and greens.

We tested it out on boat top canvas, boat hull and upholstered boat seats by applying it as per the directions on the bottle, waiting a few moments and then scrubbing it off with the applicator brush.  Directions indicated to repeat if necessary but we did not need to in any of the three tests.

– Household: there are likely many more uses for this product within a household but our tests were on carpet stains and toddler clothing.

Carpet:  On a white berber carpet we soaked a stain that had been sitting for more than several days with the product, waiting about 10 minutes to let it soak in and then scrubbed it vigorously with the brush on the bottle and the whole stain came right out! Don’t ask me what the stain was; I have teenagers, could have been just about anything.

Clothing Stains:  the toddler shirt had food stains that had been washed more than once but persisted.  We soaked the stain in Poop Off, let it sit for awhile and then scrubbed it with the brush.  We were not able to get it all out on the first try (likely because it had been washed and dried with the stain on) but after the second session the stain was completely gone.

Poop Off

Features for Boaters:

– non-toxic and bio-degradable – you can use it to your heart’s content without worrying about whether it gets into the water or not

– no solvents

– the scrub brush is attached to the bottle

– versatile (1 product cleans many things)

– affordable

– small bottle for storage

Another Great Feature:

– removes pet stains and pet odours from fabrics and problem areas

How it Works:

Poop Off’s enzymes actually digest the bird droppings which are very caustic and damage paint, ropes, decks, and everything else they touch.  This gentle liquid biologically digests the droppings.

At Canadian Yachting we are always on the lookout for products that help to promote greener boating practices.  Poop Off bird poop remover not only does a great job but also keeps our waterways free of toxins.

Throw away the box, this is some fresh thinking

Seemingly part sailboat and part spaceship, the new Jeanneau Yachts 55 just busted through the boundaries of traditional yacht design. I couldn’t take my eyes off the bubble hardtop that met me at the dock and I stepped aboard with trepidation. A few hours later, I was planning how to spend my not-yet-won lottery winnings.

Paving the Way to Cleaner Boating – How a Commitment to Reducing our Environmental Impact is Inspiring Cleaner Boating in Ontario

By Dave Rozycki

Over the past seven decades, Ontario’s marina industry has developed alongside some of Canada’s largest freshwater lakes. Boaters have been able to enjoy the beautiful scenery and create lasting memories on the water, with certain marinas dating back to the 1960s. As we reflect on this rich history, we can begin to see trends in how our footprint may have had an effect on the environment, in not-so-positive ways. However, by embracing innovative solutions and adopting sustainable practices, both marinas and boaters hold the key to preserving and enhancing the quality of our lakes and marine life for generations to come.
