Eau Canada

We stand onboard for thee

I love it when a plan comes together. How fortunate that Canada has the most lakes and coastline anywhere and that we are boaters!  Because we are not going anywhere for the foreseeable future – we are enjoying the harbours, lakes and natural beauty right here at home!

As we make plans for this summer’s adventures, the destination list is all red and white.  The advantage, of course, is that no matter how much of Canada you explore there’s always more.  Personally, I will be boating to ports on the north shore of Lake Ontario, exploring cute fish ‘n’ chips places and the occasional shoreside beverage retreat.  Then, later in the summer, I might consider a charter up the Rideau. I have never been there but the PORTS Guide makes it look mighty nice. This is the opportunity.

There are so many spots that I have yet to check out, I recall once going to Bowen Island – a short jaunt from the docks at Vancouver’s False Creek and thinking how powerful that a couple of miles whisked you back in time. Or – my friend Ross has moved to Port Stanley – there’s an interesting shore to explore. Maybe it’s time for a visit.

The consensus is that we’re boating and spending our tourist bucks in Canada, at least for now.  So where will you be heading? And what irresistible spots would you recommend; perhaps destinations your friends (and our readers) may not know about.

That’s why we have opened the Eau Canada mailbox. We look to you to share ideas about where your family is heading and your recommendations for interesting ports, great scenery and dockside dining spots we should consider.  We will publish your ideas and photos – just drop a note to eau_canada@kerrwil.com and we will get cracking on a spring full of brilliant boating-at-home info.

Bennington 22 MSB

If you’ve already had firsthand experience with a pontoon, you will easily understand the appeal of the Bennington 22 MSB. But if you haven’t, let’s start by reviewing a few of the reasons why pontoon boats have become top sellers in markets across North America.

Pontoon boats began in the early 1950s as basically four steel drums lashed to a frame. They were not unlike the log rafts of ancient cultures and not much more sophisticated at first.

The Best of Two Worlds

By Mathew Channer

Interior British Columbia might not be as famous for recreational boating as Canada’s Great Lakes, yet it is no less a world-class boating destination. The mountains offer their own flavour of marine adventure with their series of long, deep ribbon lakes, and there is perhaps no area that embodies this more uniquely than the iconic Okanagan basin in southern B.C. One could be forgiven for assuming this valley was purpose-built for nautical fun, with a few delightful perks thrown in to make the area entirely irresistible (wine-tasting, anyone?).
