Moorings announces the reopening Marsh Harbour marina

Moorings at Marsh Harbour

September 9, 2021

Two years after the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian, The Moorings has announced the return of its charter fleet to the Abacos, Bahamas. From Abaco Beach Resort, The Moorings will offer power catamaran charters beginning in December 2021, with sailing charters scheduled to commence in April 2022 aboard a variety of 3 and 4-cabin catamarans.

Fair winds and a peaceful sea are what usually wait for charter yachts cruising through the Bahamas. During the winter months cool breezes from the northwest fill the air and a stronger wind fills the sails of cruising vessels. Routes along the Sea of Abaco consist of short passages and line-of-sight navigation making for a tranquil trip.

Some captains may find a challenge among the shallow waters where it is necessary to take note of the tidal range, which can fluctuate during a full or new moon. It’s in these same waters many charterers have gone from novice to expert and where they continue to return. The area is also ideal for families and groups of friends in search of a pleasant cruising experience in an amazing natural setting. Balmy weather can be found in the summer months surrounding July and August while cooling temperatures can reach the low 60s between December and February.

It could be the gentle trade winds, the serene beaches or the picturesque villages, but the islands of the Abacos have an appeal that continually lures in travelers from across the sea. Visitors will fall in love with the nautical ambience where shoreside there is no lack of harbours, pleasant anchoring and dazzling ocean sunsets.

So when I heard that Pride Marine in Orillia, Ontario, had a Nimbus 365 Coupe in the water, I jumped at the chance to get out on it.

Tahiti—Updates from Paradise

By Zuzana Prochaska

I’ve been to Tahiti seven times—six on charter and once as crew for a couple of yachties. Over the 25 years that I’ve been visiting, it’s changed dramatically. Yet, inexplicably, it has also stayed the same.

Lounging on the flybridge of our Sunsail 454, I had time to think about this dichotomy as I toasted the nighttime skies of Bora Bora and specifically the Southern Cross, a constellation that never fails to hypnotize. As the Crosby, Stills & Nash (1982) tune reminds us:

…you understand now why you came this way.
