Finally, an ordinary weekend

Editors Note

July 7, 2022

After all this time we were hoping for something extremely simple – an ordinary summer boating weekend. It couldn’t have turned out any better.

We kicked it off as part of live, in-person Canada Day celebration. Everyone was wearing red Canada outfits, soaking in the sun and drinking in the festive tropical music. Dancing onshore, cockpit partying aboard!

On Saturday, for even more fun, I got to replace our joker valve – always a pleasure.  But the weather was sunny and superb, so the task became a pleasant morning of DIY. Our next-door dock mate helped with emotional support and disposable gloves. Once the head was reassembled – talk about an ordinary task – we all went out for a fantastic spin on the lake.

Sunday was another do-nothing day.  A little boat scrubbing, another friend-filled afternoon cruise and a spontaneous evening barbecue. The hanging-out at the boat weekend that we have been hampered from doing for a very long while.

On an relaxing, picture perfect note, my daughter, Amelia was at Hilton Beach Marina and captured this stunning North Channel sunset. Could it get any more beautiful?  Yes, we’re back. It makes you realize we sometimes take our boating pleasures for granted, or we did until 6-foot distancing came between us.

I hope you too had a wonderful Canada Day weekend and are looking forward to a summer long season with a boatload of delightfully ordinary enjoyment.

Bennington 22 MSB

If you’ve already had firsthand experience with a pontoon, you will easily understand the appeal of the Bennington 22 MSB. But if you haven’t, let’s start by reviewing a few of the reasons why pontoon boats have become top sellers in markets across North America.

Pontoon boats began in the early 1950s as basically four steel drums lashed to a frame. They were not unlike the log rafts of ancient cultures and not much more sophisticated at first.

The Best of Two Worlds

By Mathew Channer

Interior British Columbia might not be as famous for recreational boating as Canada’s Great Lakes, yet it is no less a world-class boating destination. The mountains offer their own flavour of marine adventure with their series of long, deep ribbon lakes, and there is perhaps no area that embodies this more uniquely than the iconic Okanagan basin in southern B.C. One could be forgiven for assuming this valley was purpose-built for nautical fun, with a few delightful perks thrown in to make the area entirely irresistible (wine-tasting, anyone?).
