The Moorings has just announced the launch of its newest Caribbean destination, Antigua. Home to some of the most prestigious regattas in the world, Antigua offers 54 miles of exquisite coastline and excellent sailing conditions year-round, and has long been renowned as a top-tier sailing destination.

The Moorings will be located at Nelson’s Dockyard, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is currently the only working Georgian dockyard in the world, offering a unique starting point to your Antigua sailing adventure.

The fleet in Antigua is unique in that it is almost entirely monohull-driven at present with three monohulls available ranging from 45’ to 51’ in length. This makes it an ideal destination for experienced sailors interested in a skippered or bareboat charter.

Ian Pedersen, Marketing Manager – Americas for the charter company says they chose Antigua for several reasons. “Guests have long been inquiring about chartering in Antigua, but it is rather far to travel there from our next-closest destination, which is St. Martin. Similar to how we have “bookend” destinations available in the Windwards (St. Lucia and Grenada), we feel having charters available in Antigua and St. Martin will allow greater flexibility for guests seeking to explore the Leeward islands of the Caribbean.”

Charters are available for booking for departures now through 2018.

After spending three wonderful days relaxing, exploring and visiting with other boaters in Princess Louisa Inlet, my wife Arlene and I departed, retracing our track back out through Jervis Inlet’s Queens, Princess Royal and Prince of Wales Reaches. The granite mountain slopes shone brilliantly in the morning sun. It was easy to imagine how the intense weight of massive glacier flows carved out these mountains and polished the hard granite to a shiny brilliance. Below the granite walls, thick forest, dissected by waterfalls, descended to the shoreline.

It was still dark when we departed our home slips in Chrystal Harbour, LaSalle, Ontario, and entered the Detroit River. It was August 2nd, 2013, the first day of our adventure to complete the mini-loop counterclockwise from LaSalle, down Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, through the Trent-Severn Waterway, across Georgian Bay, down Lake Huron and back home to LaSalle.

Maurice and his wife, Hélène, traveled on Mystic Blue, a Mainship 30 Pilot Classic. Terry and his wife, Linda, voyaged on their Camano Troll, 4 Buoys.
