Paul and Sheryl Shard, hosts and producers of the sailing adventure TV series Distant Shores and regular contributors to Canadian Yachting magazine, have announced they would be entering the show's Southerly 49 sailboat, Distant Shores II, in the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC). The start date is Sunday November 25, leaving from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands and finishing in St. Lucia in the Caribbean. www.worldcruising.com/arc

"The ARC is a major event in the sailing community and when we were invited to participate we felt it would be a great opportunity to document it in an episode of the Distant Shores sailing TV series," says Sheryl. "Paul and I were already planning to do a transatlantic passage in December for the show so were able to adjust our filming schedule so that we could do it with the ARC a couple of weeks earlier."

The Shards are currently filming 13 new episodes for Season 9 of the Distant Shores sailing adventure travel TV series that is broadcast in 24 languages worldwide on Travel Channel, WealthTV and Travel and Escape Channel. The TV series celebrates the sailing lifestyle and features the world's best sailing destinations.

This year's voyage began in England from where the couple sailed to the north coast of France and spent the summer travelling south through the networks of inland waterways all the way to the Mediterranean Sea. From Port St. Louis near Marseilles they sailed west along the coast of France, then Spain documenting their travels and are currently in Gibraltar. On Saturday, weather permitting, they will sail to Rabat in Morocco to film episode 109 before sailing on to the Canary Islands to join the ARC.
