Canadian Boatbuilder Takes Green Prize for a Third Time

Campion Marine has announced for a third time that it has won the Green Business Award through the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes environmentally innovative and sustainable practices.

“Winning the Green Award for a third time is really an honour. Our whole team has been working very hard to become greener and we all appreciate being recognized for this,” comments Brock Elliott, president of Campion Marine.

Campion manufactures all of its boats using Envirez, a renewably sourced bio-derived resin. The Envirez resin uses a substantial amount of soybean oil and corn derived ethanol in its formulation enabling Campion to eliminate over 100,000 pounds of C02 from entering the atmosphere.

The British Columbia-based boat manufacturer also uses Ecomate polyurethane flotation foam products that further reduce harmful emissions and, unlike previously used foams, are free of Volatile Organic Compounds.

Last year, Campion also took on Acrastrip CRR, an acetone replacement that is recognized by the Design for the Environment division of the US EPA.

Campion is now using Maxguard LE (low emissions) gel coat and will shortly be using a revised version of ATC Spraycore, which will now be using Envirez resin for its base.

In addition, Campion working with ReGen Nautic of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, launched the new Chase 550 with the world’s first 180hp electric outboard. These initiatives continue to build on the Lean Manufacturing practices already implemented seven years ago allowing Campion to further reduce its waste and ecological footprint.

A family-owned company, Campion Marine has been building high-performance sport boats and cruisers for 40 years. The firm manufactures more than 50 models of boats ranging from 4m-9m (16ft-30ft) in length and it markets and sells boats in more than 30 countries.
