Toronto Offshore Race is Off

Apr 24, 2025

Race World Offshore (RWO), in collaboration with its Canadian organizers Phillip Stainton of TDF Racing and Chris Grant of C.J. Grant Racing, has announced the cancellation of the highly anticipated Toronto Grand Prix, originally scheduled for July 11-13, 2025, as part of the 2025 APBA offshore series.

CJ Grant Racing’s supercat was at TIBS in January

This decision stems from recent events that have ignited uncertainties in today’s political climate, heightening tensions and straining cross-border logistics. As a result, teams have faced challenges in confidently committing to the event, leaving RWO without the critical mass of competitors needed for a series race at the level that was expected.

The cancellation reflects a shared understanding among RWO, its Canadian race partner, and top-class competitors, all of whom have invested significant effort and monies to make the event a reality. The challenges of predicting the future, of ensuring smooth border transit for crews and equipment, combined with a packed racing calendar, ultimately tipped the scales toward this difficult but necessary choice.

Chris Grant the lead of the Toronto organizing team, comments “We are extremely disappointed that the Toronto Grand Prix had to be cancelled due to the uncertainty between our two countries. When we embarked on this incredible journey to host an international race in Toronto, there were no tensions between nations, and the city welcomed us with open arms, approving the event without hesitation. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the City of Toronto and all its stakeholders for their unwavering support in helping launch this event and we look forward to rescheduling in July 2026.”

Sailing into the Future at Antigua Sailing Week

By Mathew Channer

“Standby tack,” Canadian sailor Katy Campbell orders. The crew scrambles over the sheet lines and braces on the deck.

“Three, two, one, tack!”

I wait until the bow turns into the wind and the headsail snaps over, then crawl over the cabin top of Panacea X to the now windward side. The trim team smoothly sheets on the headsail and a competitor vessel shoots past our stern, feet away, as our Solana 45 beats eastward along Antigua’s south coast.
