You’re Invited – Cold Spring Water Free Online Speaker Series April 25th

Speaker

Apr 11, 2024

If you live, work, or play on or near the water, this session is for you! We’ll touch on what happens to our bodies should we fall into cold water, best practices for self-rescue, how to help others who may be hypothermic and the decision to stay with the boat or swim for shore should you capsize.

During this session, we’ll touch on the following:

What happens to our bodies when we are immersed in cold water

  • Survival and self rescue
  • It’s all about prevention – Thermal Protective Clothing
  • Stay or Swim? – When help isn’t immediately available
  • What to do when you’re the only one available when someone calls for help

Our presenter, Ian Gilson, has been a power boater for close to 30 years predominantly in the Bobcaygeon area on Pigeon Lake. He is currently Director of the Canadian Safe Boating Council / Manager, Cold Water Workshops. Ian is also Coxwain for the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary (TOWARF) out of Oakville, Ontario, for the past 20 years.
