Reminder from the National Environmental Committee:

Before you sail, know the rules about whales! Make sure you have a pleasant and safe boating season this year by reviewing your knowledge of safe boating practices around large whales. See BoatBlue.ca for the joint CPS-ECP and Marine Education and Research Society guide entitled “Marine Mammals and Boaters: Safety and Stewardship”. See also www.SeeABlowGoSlow.org for an overview of marine mammal regulations.

Before you sail, know the rules about whales!

Boating season is already in full swing and the warm weather is making it difficult to resist the water. Before you venture on the ocean though, make sure you know the rules and regulations regarding boating around marine mammals. It is your responsibility as a boater to know the laws, not to mention collision with a large whale could lead to serious injury and material damage.

Last year, the CPS-ECP Environmental Committee, in conjunction with the Marine Education and Research Society, developed a Boat Blue guide entitled “Marine Mammals and Boaters: Safety and Stewardship”. The guide includes regulations and provides further information on how to be a responsible boater and participate in the health and conservation of our waterways. Find the guide here: BoatBlue.ca
