Trent and Rideau delay season opening to align with provincial measures

To align with measures introduced by the Province of Ontario to limit the spread of COVID-19, Parks Canada administered places in Ontario will delay the launch of most visitor services including camping until at least June 2, 2021. This includes the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site.

The following services and facilities on the Trent-Severn Waterway and the Rideau Canal National Historic Site will remain closed to visitors until at least June 2, 2021:

• Lockage and overnight mooring

• All camping;

 

 

PORTS Rideau CoverAll Parks Canada reservations impacted by this delayed opening will be automatically cancelled and refunded in full. Visitors do not have to do anything to cancel their reservation.

Parks Canada is asking Canadians to observe travel restrictions, to respect the guidance of public health experts and all public health restrictions, and to make every effort to limit the spread of COVID-19 and keep one another safe.

The Parks Canada website provides detailed information on what locations are open, what visitors can expect, how to prepare for a visit and what services may be available. Visitors should check pc.gc.ca before they travel.

This Ain’t No Cruise, Sister!

The Unicorn is truly a ship like no other. This gaff-rigged, topsail schooner is home to Sisters Under Sail, a leadership and confidence building program for girls and women created and run by Dawn Santamaria. Dawn was inspired to create this program after observing her four daughters grow up sailing on a ship. She noticed an increase in their confidence and leadership skills and attributed this to their competencies on the ship. Dawn was determined to create an all women crew, “we better be leaders to teach women leadership” and by 2007 the ship was all female. I was given an opportunity to hop onto the ship and become one of the crew for three days while sailing the ship from the Brockville Tall Ship festival to the Redpath Waterfront Festival in Toronto.

Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
