Sneak Peek: CY June issue – Stay Home and Go Boating

CY0620 Cover

May 14, 2020

Watch for the June 2020 issue of Canadian Yachting magazine coming out soon! This issue borrows a theme from the COVID-19 pandemic, with a beautiful 13-page photographic spread called “Cruising Canada”. We celebrate all the great boating reasons to STAY HOME!

Our cover features a classic 1948 Shepherd runabout taking a day trip on the scenic and very sheltered Rideau Canal from Manotick through several locks and lakes to the 8-lock flight that goes right between Canada’s Parliament Buildings and the historic Chateau Laurier Hotel. This trip was chronicled in a TVO Documentary with lots of aerial footage and the best view of this UNESCO Heritage site that you will ever see.

Of course, we wanted to share some special photography of other great Canadian boating locations in B.C., Georgian Bay and Atlantic Canada.

Another major feature in our June Canadian Yachting is Henri de Cotret’s very detailed cruising notes for the St. Lawrence River to Lake Champlain. Again, the history, scenery, marinas and the restaurants in the towns along the way are all delightful!

We have a special boat test; the Axopar 37XC with twin Mercury Verado 300 V8 outboards. This is a very innovative boat with strong performance and a surprisingly attractive price.

Onboard power systems and environmentally friendly boating choices like re-powering with electric motors is the tech feature in this issue.

We believe that the summer of 2020 will be a very special year to re-discover boating in Canada. But please, as you prepare to go out and enjoy your summer, don’t forget some of the important practices we have all had to learn this year. Stay home and stay safe.

Dodging holiday havoc in the tropics

Getting out of town was top-of-mind as it was only November and I was already saturated with Christmas traditions – the music, the glitter, the cookies, the sales. A week in relatively remote Belize was the siren song so we booked a 45-foot catamaran with The Moorings and packed our bags.
