All Aboard! The 2020 Vancouver International Boat Show is On The Horizon

The 58th annual Vancouver International Boat Show will take place February 5-9, 2020.

Twiggy, the word famous water-skiing squirrel has been announced as the star attraction of the event, which will also include more than 250 exhibitors, providing boat enthusiasts with a first look at the 2020 boating season’s premiere boat models and accessories.

From canoes, kayaks and paddles boards, to run-abouts, fishing boats, surf, wake and water sports boats, to the ultra-luxurious mega yachts, this year’s showcase of boats touches on every genre within a boater’s imaginable wishlist.

VIBS Granville IslandSpecial features at this years’ show will include the chance to meet and hear from the Shaw Family. An inspiring story of a family of four who grew to become a family of five while on a seven year adventure sailing around the Pacific. The Shaw’s will tell their story first-hand and take listeners through the ups and downs of a life at sea.

Women’s Day returns with a full lineup of incredible female guest speakers who will be leading the one-day educational boating seminars. With a wide range of topics from basic electrical to tips and tricks for the galley and crew, the presentations for both power and sail will help beginners get started, and offer seasoned boaters a fun refresher. Registration is required and includes a ticket to enjoy the boat show on any show day.

VIBS BC PlaceThis years show has something for everyone, from spectacular yachts to all the boating gear you could possibly need. It’s a family-friendly event that is sure to excite both the youngest and most experienced of boaters. Chances are if what you’re looking for is connected to boats you can expect to see it at this years show.

Once again the Vancouver International Boat Show will be hosted in two locations, indoors at BC Place and the floating show at Granville Island. Free shuttle buses and water ferries will also be operating continuously between the two venues.

The Erie Canal – An Extraordinary Waterway

As I shift our chartered canal boat into neutral, I’m soothed by the soundtrack of bird calls, the occasional plaintive horn of a distant train and the hum of our engine.

I reach for the VHF to radio the lockmaster in charge of Erie Canal’s Lock 32 dead ahead. Our boat spins gently in the current like a maple key in a mud puddle.

“This is Onondaga,” I say. “Headed westbound and requesting passage.”
