West Vancouver Yacht Club: Awarded Five Anchor Eco-Rating Certification

West Vancouver Yacht Club reports that following an independent certification process the Georgia Strait Alliance has awarded the West Vancouver Yacht Club, Fisherman’s Cove facilities, the Clean Marine BC 5 Anchor Eco-Rating Certification. In making the award the Georgia Strait Alliance stated that the 5 Anchor Rating is the top anchor eco-rating and recognizes the WVYC’s commitment to Marina Environmental Best Practices. West Vancouver Yacht Club, Fisherman’s Cove, previously held a 4 Anchor rating.

The Georgia Strait Alliance Clean Marine BC Policy requires the participant to commit to an understanding and recognition of the vital importance of maintaining a clean natural environment as being fundamental to its activities. In addition to implementing a number of prescribed operating principles and practices the West Vancouver Yacht Club is required integrate the Clean Marine BC Policy between the Yacht Club and our Members and must strive to improve our environmental performance.

West Vancouver Yacht Club Commodore Cam Telford stated “We are very pleased to receive this 5 Anchor Award. It is only natural that our interest in being on the water should incorporate a stewardship of this precious resource. The West Vancouver Yacht Club and our members have always respected the waters we enjoy so much and we applaud the Georgia Strait Alliance for its work in formalizing a program to assist in its recovery and safeguarding. Achieving this top Eco-Rating requires a commitment of both the heart and resources. I applaud our Members for their support and the part they all play in this achievement.”

General Manager David Martin in accepting the Award on behalf of the WVYC stated “Our Staff and Members accepted the 4 Anchor rating awarded following the past verification audit but knew we could do better. I appreciate the direction provided by the Board, the support of our Members and the many contributions of our Staff in going one step further and achieving this top rating. We will fly the Clean Marine BC flag proudly.”

We are pleased to have the West Vancouver Yacht Club join the top rating in our Clean Marine BC program for their Fisherman’s Cove Clubhouse and Marina. The positive changes they’ve implemented help protect the Strait of Georgia, and we commend them for embracing our program’s philosophy of continual improvement,” said Michelle Young, Georgia Strait Alliance’s Clean Marine BC Coordinator.

Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
