Canadian Yachting April – Welcome to Spring!

CY April Preview

Feb 28, 2019

After what felt like a long winter, peppered with major weather events across North America including major snowfalls and record low temperatures at times, what could be more welcome than Spring and the April issue of Canadian Yachting magazine!

Our special feature story is our recent visit to the legendary Lake X – Mercury Marine’s top-secret test facility. In the 1950’s this very secluded lake surrounded by swamp land and wildlife, was the scene of countless hours of testing and development for new engines, propellers, high-speed lower units and racing equipment. This year marks the 80th Anniversary of Mercury Marine’s founding by E. Carl Kiekhaefer. After years of disuse, Mercury Marine has again begun using Lake X and we want to take you there.

Marianne Scott takes us to B.C.s Blind Channel while Mark Stevens gives us a look through the Thousand Islands.

And…the Galley Guys are back! This time they spent a few days cruising the scenic and peaceful Rideau Canal aboard a Le Boat Horizon Escape 1350. It’s the excellent and comfortable way to view this UNESCO World Heritage site.

A very special story comes to us from Clarity Nicoll. The title is “Dear Doris, Help! My Boyfriend Doesn’t Sail”. This is an encouraging and entertaining story about Clarity and Dustin having a blast (and a vacation) learning how to sail a keelboat at the Colgate Offshore Sailing School in Florida.

New boat reviews are always great reading and in this issue we have the fabulous new Swift Trawler 47, a spacious and fast live-aboard that can make your travel dreams come true. We also sail the new Beneteau Oceanis 46.1 in Annapolis to discover both the inviting accommodations and the spirited performance this hot new design delivers.

Watch for the April 2019 issue of Canadian Yachting magazine!

The Pursuit S 268 Sport centre console is a do-it-all kind of boat with a solid sense of style. Centre console designs have been developed for the southern blue water sport fishing enthusiasts (and this boat would raise fish with the best of them) but the Pursuit S 268 Sport centre console offers far more utility and enjoyment than just fishing.

Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

(l to r) Holly, Adam, Pat, Ron, Shelley

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
