Indoor sailing: Glenmore Sailing Club plays pool
Feb 14, 2019
On Saturday, January 26 Calgary’s Glenmore Sailing Club’s kicked off its 60th anniversary year with some “Indoor Sailing”. The project partnered with SAIT (The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) as part of Sport Calgary’s “All Sport One City”. This was the earliest the sailing season has ever started in Calgary.
All Sport One City is an opportunity for Calgarians to try a new sport or get back to one they previously enjoyed. This introduction to sailing event was supported by Rogers Rent-All – their industrial fans along the length of the pool are providing the wind to move the boats while Spectrum NDT Ltd. provided generators to power the fans!
During the program, youth will had 30 minutes of sailing and safety instruction before getting into the boats in the SAIT pool for 30 minutes of sailing. The Club provided six of our Optimist sailboats in the pool for Indoor Sailing and volunteers in and around the pool for coaching and safety.
The official summary of the event – It was a blast. Great start to our anniversary year
