Steven Bathel Owner of Rekord MarineOn Friday October 13th I attended the Rekord Marine in Vancouver, BC. This year I decided to focus on some of the new innovative products that have been developed right here in British Columbia.

When questioned about the Acuva water purifier, Stephen the owner of Rekord Marine had this to say “you only have to get sick once from drinking polluted water. When you turn the tap on, the flow of water activates the unit and pure water flows into your glass. This really gives you peace of mind.”

Acuva’s innovative UV-LED water purification system is designed to provide potable water in a compact, low-power, low-maintenance, cost-effective system for mobile and off-grid applications. “Our initial target markets are North American recreational boats, recreational vehicles and cottages.

Using proprietary technology developed at the University of British Columbia, Acuva is a new microbial water purification system that is a low-power and low-maintenance design leveraging emergent UV-LED technology.

John Duk from the boathouse in Dorval, Québec took some time out of his day at the Rekord Marine Trade Show to talk about a product that he is particularly interested in, that’s manufactured in his home province of Québec.

Final FixFinal Fix is a dinghy repair product that’s manufactured in Québec. This single component glue for repairing PVC or Hypalon inflatables, is, to his knowledge the only product on the market that is available to the consumer. Final Fix is a non-toxic glue All of the other products in this category are sold solely to commercial clients because of their toxicity.

Final Fix comes as a complete kit with the tube of glue, sandpaper, a plastic spatula and an 8″ x 3′ patch in either grey or black. The tube of glue can also be purchased separately.

John said that the glue can be used for bedding your windows on boats and RVs.

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
