Canadian Zingara wins First 36.7 World Cup

From August 24 to 27 the first ever Beneteau First 36.7 World Cup at HSK (HelsingforsSegelklubb), Helsinki, Finland. The entry list included European competitors and Grizzly, skippered by Chuck Bayer of Detroit, the North American Champion in 2016.

After ten tough races it was Canada’s Zingara helmed by Richard Reid with crew Ian Nowell, Gordon Delgaty-Cook, Allison 1.0 1.0 2.0 Hobson-Wardell, John Kerr, Craig Zaluski, 
Brian McKay, Stephen Bardon, and Geoff Moore taking the regatta. Impressive!

The Erie Canal – An Extraordinary Waterway

As I shift our chartered canal boat into neutral, I’m soothed by the soundtrack of bird calls, the occasional plaintive horn of a distant train and the hum of our engine.

I reach for the VHF to radio the lockmaster in charge of Erie Canal’s Lock 32 dead ahead. Our boat spins gently in the current like a maple key in a mud puddle.

“This is Onondaga,” I say. “Headed westbound and requesting passage.”
