Jeanneau America held a recent two day event in Annapolis Maryland called “ Throttle Down on South River” to display their latest outboard models for their Dealers and the Media.

Nick Harvey, the President of Jeanneau America gave an opening presentation on the history of Jeanneau and the part it plays from within Groupe Beneteau.

Jeanneau outboards represent 25% of the entire outboard market in Europe, and this in itself, speaks on the quality of the product.

On Day Two we were able to sea trial all the models. I elected to sea trial the NC 895, and the Leader 10.5. Canadian Yachting isscheduling boat reviews on both these models to be included in future issues of CY.

Oil-Spill Centre Leaving BC

The federal government is closing BC's command centre for emergency oil spills at a time when the province is facing two possible pipeline projects and a potential spike in tanker traffic in West Coast waterways. Ottawa has said it will shut down BC's regional office for emergency oil-spill responders, located in Vancouver, and centralize operations in Quebec in the wake of the cost-cutting March 29 federal budget. The move could affect about 42 jobs in the BC-Yukon region.

Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre – Kayak and Canoe Building Courses

These popular multi-day courses are being offered in September and October 2012 at the Maritime Centre in Cowichan Bay. The kayak is a 16’ Resolute model, while the canoe is a 15’ Freedom model, both designed by Steve Killing. Depending on attendance, multiple examples will be built by the participants. During the program they will learn all the steps of building a cedar-strip vessel. This includes interpreting drawings, setting up molds, building the keel and stems and forming the hull from bead-and-cove cedar strips. Fiberglass and epoxy will complete the hull. Following the “turn over” the class will lean the installation of coamings, seats, thwarts, and gunwales, and other finishing components.

Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
