As we stand on the threshold of a 366-day year in the world of boating, I confess to some confusion but I am putting on my positive hat.
One of the principles behind Les Voiles de St. Barth since the event’s creation back in 2010 is that all the boats, whatever their size or rating, are allowed to have free expression. In this way, in addition to the monohull craft, a number of multihulls also participate in the event each year.
Mercury Marine was the power behind the Rock Aqua Jays Water Ski Show Team from Janesville WI in August attempted a Guinness World Record for building the largest-ever human pyramid on water skis. Two weeks later, they have made the Book and set a brand new record.
Robert began sailing an Optimist at the club level in Norway when he was 6 years old. After moving to Canada, he went through Junior Sailing at Kingston Yacht Club.
By 1974 TBI’s fleet was then three vessels. STV Pathfinder, TS Playfair and a 37’ gaff-rigged cutter Trident II was also in operation, along with small fleet of small craft and three converted lifeboats.
In the October issue of Canadian Yachting and Canadian Yachting West, we erred in our description of the Raritan Electro-Scan sewage treatment system. The manufacturer claimed, and we repeated, an incomplete statement that this system treated onboard sewage to a level safe enough to pump overboard with no further treatment. In fact, this is only true in some jurisdictions in the United States. It may be true in Washington State, for example, but it is not true in Canada. In Canada now, no discharge at all is allowed within one mile of shore. And discharge is only allowed directly into the ocean at locations three clear miles from shore.

There is nothing more that I enjoy than being with friends and messing about in boats. Messing about in brand-new boats on a champagne sailing day on Lake Ontario at the beginning of the summer doesn’t get any better. To have the new owner, Helmuth Strobel and Anchor Yachts dealer Pancho Jimenez aboard made it even more special, as they can also speak to what they truly enjoy about the boat. We keep our own boat in a harbour that has a long waiting list for boats over 35 feet, so this little gem would definitely fit the bill and feels like a much bigger boat. True to the spirit of the 7th generation Oceanis line, the 34.1 is built in Poland and replaces the 35.1. It is 1,000 lbs lighter, 14 cm narrower and has 29% more sail area.
Peter Island Resort in the British Virgin Islands has opened its rebuilt and re-envisioned luxury private island in 2024 after the property closures from the Virgin Islands’ 2017 hurricane season. Peter Island Resort has been undergoing its transformation for over six years. Its evolution includes brand new and upgraded accommodations and new state-of-the-art facilities and five stellar beaches amid hundreds of acres of unspoiled tropical island.

The new Yacht Club will be a must on the itineraries of sailors, boaters and yachtsmen with a marina that can accommodate a range of vessels from power boats, sailboats and catamarans, to super yachts of up to 200 feet. Located in Sprat Bay harbor, the Yacht Club will be its own destination with a dedicated swimming pool for Yacht Club guests, Drunken Pelican restaurant and bar, a commissary, Sea Chest Boutique and a sports recreation area with pickleball, basketball and bocce ball courts and a lawn-games area.
