Wear It

Mar 8, 2016

The National Safe Boating Council, in partnership with the Canadian Safe Boating Council, invite boating safety professionals, the boating community and the media to participate in the seventh-annual “Ready, Set, Wear It!” Life Jacket World Record Day on Saturday, May 21, 2016. Participants in cities around the globe will gather to set a world record for the most life jackets worn and inflatable life jackets inflated. The goal is not only to promote the comfortable and versatile options when it comes to life jackets, but also to educate the public about life jackets and safe boating in general.

“Ready, Set, Wear It!,” will usher in National Safe Boating Week, this year May 21 – 27, 2016. These efforts are part of a yearlong campaign to promote safe and responsible boating, the North American Safe Boating Campaign. Boating safety partners across the U.S. and Canada are teaming up to educate the public about life jacket wear and safe boating.

To ensure an accurate count from each location, all organizers are asked to record their event through photographs or video as well as a sign-up sheet (found under “Resources” at http://www.readysetwearit.com). All Sign-In sheets and photos/videos must be turned in to outreach@safeboatingcouncil.org no later than May 31, 2016 to be counted towards the record. After the event numbers are tallied, the total number of participants is posted to the website.

The National Safe Boating Council and the Canadian Safe Boating Council hope to not only set another world record and surpass 2015’s 10,917participants from twelve countries, but, most importantly, educate the boating public about the comfort and accessibility of inflatable life jackets. Throughout the year, the North American Safe Boating Campaign focuses on the goal of educating the public about safe boating and life jacket wear, and relies on events like “Ready, Set, Wear It!” and National Safe Boating Week to bring more awareness to this life-saving cause. If you’ve already had firsthand experience with a pontoon, you will easily understand the appeal of the Bennington 22 MSB. But if you haven’t, let’s start by reviewing a few of the reasons why pontoon boats have become top sellers in markets across North America.

Pontoon boats began in the early 1950s as basically four steel drums lashed to a frame. They were not unlike the log rafts of ancient cultures and not much more sophisticated at first.

The Best of Two Worlds

By Mathew Channer

Interior British Columbia might not be as famous for recreational boating as Canada’s Great Lakes, yet it is no less a world-class boating destination. The mountains offer their own flavour of marine adventure with their series of long, deep ribbon lakes, and there is perhaps no area that embodies this more uniquely than the iconic Okanagan basin in southern B.C. One could be forgiven for assuming this valley was purpose-built for nautical fun, with a few delightful perks thrown in to make the area entirely irresistible (wine-tasting, anyone?).
