The 2014 NP Yacht Owners Rendezvous at Telegraph Harbour Marina last week was a huge success, attended by 24 boats and 55 people.  Everyone enjoyed the great food, music and Mexican theme.  A good time was had by all and the weather cooperated despite a few downpours on the last day.  Educational and round-table sessions for both women and men were well attended.  Many thanks to Malcolm Ellison of Lightship Mobile Marine for his entertaining and informative sessions, stories and laughs.

Teaching Self-Reliance in Marine Weather and Forecasting

Marine meteorologist and educator Lee Chesneau offers his two-day seminar “Toward Self-Reliance in Marine Weather and Forecasting” March 14-15 at the Northwest Maritime Center in Port Townsend, Washington.


Chesneau is a veteran forecaster for the US Navy, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and private industry who now focuses on teaching marine weather and advanced weather routing techniques to mariners. His aim is “to provide every capable seagoing mariner with the knowledge, tools and culture to embody self-reliance and independent decision-making in weather forecasting, route planning and heavy weather avoidance.”

CYA Appoints Curtis Florence CYA’s Rolex Sailor of the Year Award

 

Last night, during CYA’s Annual General Meeting, Curtis Florence was appointed CYA’s Rolex Sailor of the Year Award during the Awards Dinner hosted by the Royal Canadian Yachting Club. Curtis’ two sons, Trey (16) and Jordan (12), were present to accept the award on behalf of their father. Curtis was able to make his gracious acceptance speech via SKYPE.

Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
