Sailing Legend Jimmy Cornell to Launch Blue Planet Odyssey in Canada

Jimmy Cornell-Blue Planet Odyssey

Author and internationally renowned sailor Jimmy Cornell will be at the Toronto International Boat Show for the first time this year to recruit Canadian sailors for one of the most ambitious voyages ever undertaken. The crews, launching from ports in every continent in the world in 2014 and 2015, will survey some of the world’s most endangered islands, take part in community projects to help curb the effects of global warming, and gather data for the international scientific community. Blue Planet Odyssey will also highlight the effects of climate change on the Arctic icecap, the Great Barrier Reef, and nature reserves such as the Galapagos Islands.

For Canadian sailors, Blue Planet Odyssey will score three significant firsts: the first round-the-world event to call at an Atlantic Canada port (St John’s in July 2014), a start from Vancouver in 2015, and the first sailing event to transit the Northwest Passage. The Blue Planet expedition is also slated to visit vulnerable, remote islands, including the San Blas Islands, the Maldive Islands and the Marshall Islands.

Jimmy CornellCornell is an author and accomplished sailor who has sailed 200,000 miles in all oceans of the world and is the founder of the highly successful ARC transatlantic rally. Cornell is credited with having devised the offshore cruising rally concept. In the last 27 years, Cornell has organized 24 transatlantic rallies, five round-the-world rallies and one round-the-world race, with over 3,000 boats and 15,000 sailors having participated in his sailing events. His books include the bestseller World Cruising Routes, one of the best-selling nautical publications in the world.

Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
