New Marina Opens on North Arm

Milltown Marina

The Lower Mainland’s newest marina, Milltown Marina on the North Arm of the Fraser River, has opened for business in stages over the fall and winter.

Boats began occupying the Marpole marina’s 227 wet berths last fall and its new marine service centre opened in January. A 200-space dry stack facility, a centrepiece of the facility, is slated to go into operation this month, and The Hatch Restaurant is expected to open in March. Milltown Yacht Sales, an affiliate of Fraser Yacht Sales of Granville Island, also opened for business at the marina this winter.

Located behind Richmond Island, the marina is about six miles from the Strait of Georgia at Pt. Grey, and a short drive from Vancouver International Airport, just across the North Arm.

I reach for the VHF to radio the lockmaster in charge of Erie Canal’s Lock 32 dead ahead. Our boat spins gently in the current like a maple key in a mud puddle.

“This is Onondaga,” I say. “Headed westbound and requesting passage.”
