Cruising the Water, In Style – How JETSURF is “more than a board”

Written in Partnership with JETSURF Canada

While they may seem to be relatively new to most boaters, motorized surfboards have a long history dating back as far as the 1930s. A few companies in the 1960s began to produce boards, but it wasn’t until circa 2010 that the technology advanced enough and MSR Engines (a small manufacturer in the Czech Republic) produced the first safe and reliable JETSURF motorized surfboard for the public. Making a dramatic impact on the industry, JETSURF is now an internationally recognized brand known for pushing the limits of technology and innovation in the field. Born from a passion of surfing and motorsports, the JETSURF has redefined “Personal Watercraft”, and for 14 years now, has led the industry, garnering attention from not just hobbyists looking for some fun on the lake, but from athletes worldwide yearning to leave their mark on the international watersports stage.

JETSURF boards are constructed with a lightweight carbon fibre hull and a small but powerful engine. Weighing less than 50lbs and reaching speeds over 60km/h, it propels surfers effortlessly across the water. According to Canadian distributor Mark Andrews, the excitement does not come at the cost of safety, as these boards “ …are incredibly safe and easy to use for anyone. They can be ridden while lying down, kneeling, or even sitting. But of course, standing and surfing the board like a snowboarder cuts through fresh powder down a snowy mountain, is the best way to describe this incredibly unique experience.”

Light enough to carry by yourself.

Unlike most sit-down personal watercraft, motorized surfboards, like the JETSURF, require no trailer, no storage, no winterizing, no boat launches, and most importantly, they keep challenging users to push themselves further, cementing fundamental skills that translate to a variety of sports. Because of the skills and techniques involved, jet surfing is never a boring activity. Additionally, you can use them anywhere they are permitted, even taking them on an airplane to the Caribbean in the winter while the boat is stored awav. Boards like the JETSURF are excellent toys or tenders on larger boats, allowing for use while anchored or for excursions to explore narrower waterways in search of adventure, or trips to the shore for supplies.

If users are looking for a means of non-traditional exercise then JETSURF can provide such opportunities. While these boards are very easy to use, even more so with the inflatable training Tube, allowing literally anyone to learn to ride, it is still a physically involved activity that provides great exercise. Users have the freedom to choose their activity level, whether that be a casual excursion or hard carving adventure. Surfers get out of it exactly what they put into it.

The technology of the JETSURF has advanced tremendously over the last 14 years. The 100cc fuel-injected motor is the cleanest, and most efficient engine of its class, and very quiet at only 59dB with the silencer. Just 2.8L of fuel can last up to 1.5 hours, and with the alternator and auxiliary fuel tank, riders can continuously refuel and ride from sun-up to sun-down, with no waiting for battery charges. For those that want a quiet ride, the new Electric JETSURF featuring state-of-the-art battery monitoring and safety features, is the lightest electric board on the market and can be used in any body of water.

Every year, the UM MotoSurf World Championship brings together the world’s best riders for a thrilling competition of precision and power. Up to 12 racers navigate through challenging   courses in a variety of push competitors and the boards to event attracts a global audience, with participants from various countries showcasing their skills and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in this dynamic sport. Hiding Out in Belize

Dodging holiday havoc in the tropics

Getting out of town was top-of-mind as it was only November and I was already saturated with Christmas traditions – the music, the glitter, the cookies, the sales. A week in relatively remote Belize was the siren song so we booked a 45-foot catamaran with The Moorings and packed our bags.
