Tern Boatworks

Tern 1

July 9, 2016

Once out of the shop you can really see the hull shape.

Back in February we reported on the new build at Tern Boatworks in Gold River, NS. Bruce Thompson, Tern’s owner, said construction is going well with just a few of the usual changes that stress any builder. Bruce sent us a few pictures showing how you turn over a 48 foot hull which almost fills their small shop. You take it outside and use two large cranes to roll it over. Always a nervous moment for any builder, this operation takes careful planning and a steady hand by the operators. In the end the roll-over of the 48 foot Laurie McGowen designed motorsailer went smoothly. This boat is one of the more interesting builds underway on the East Coast. The interior is now being mocked up and we’ll have some more pictures as things progress.
