Canadian Skipper Reclaims Lead In World’s Longest Yacht Race
Eric Holden, skipper of Henri Lloyd has regained the number one spot and a 5.9 point overall lead in the Clipper 2013-14 Round the World Yacht Race after finishing second in a 24 day, 5,600 mile endurance battle across the North Pacific from Qingdao, China to San Francisco.

Patos Island Race Tracker Failure
During the recent Patos Island Race hosted by Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club (SNSYC) racers and fans were disappointed in the RaceTracker provided by the Swiftsure International Race organization when it failed during the race.The Swiftsure organization deeply regrets this failure that persisted despite making every effort to solve the difficulties during the race. Canadian solo sailor rescued north of Auckland
Yet another solo sailor has been rescued by a commercial ship, this time a car carrier, after his yacht was rolled and holed during a storm in the South Pacific, some 1250nm north east of Auckland. Canadian sailor Art Munneke, a member of the SaltSpring Island Yacht Club, had survived for five days after the incident, augmenting his electric bilge pump with hand pumping. When the bilge pump failed he let off his EPIRB.

Canadian Yachting Magazine and Ontario Sailing Honoured John Osborn with The Legends of Ontario Sailing Award on April 12th at the Red Carpet Gala held at the Oakville Yacht Club
The word legend implies that you have been around for a long time and John who has been racing sailboats for over 60 years it doesn’t seem that long. In addition to his sailing prowess John has also been in the marine industry for almost 50 years. In that time he has worked in boat building, spar and fitting manufacturing, sail making, and for the past number of years the as a distributor of marine hardware.

The Lake Ontario 300 Challenge is the premier offshore race on Lake Ontario, and it provides a challenging circumnavigation of the lake. A group of double handed racers originally developed the The Lake Ontario 300 Challenge as the ultimate double handed challenge in 1990 and it still remains the longest annual fresh water race.

BC’s Coastal Craft Launches Stylish 65’ Concord
With the launch of its first 65’ Concord, Coastal Craft of Gibsons BC marks both its largest build to date and a departure in styling from its smaller designs. At the request of the customer, says president Jeff Rhodes, the aluminum builder has given the 65 a European-influenced profile that is both more upright, with two full decks, and more gracefully swept back than the workboat-inspired styling of its smaller boats.

Canadian John Craig is the Newly Appointed Head of the ISAF Sailing World Cup
Craig was for 11 years the PRO at St. Francis Yacht Club and who most recently the PRO of the 34th America’s Cup. Yacht Conference Hosts BC Jobs Minister
Organizers of the Pacific Yacht Conference, slated for May 28-29 in Vancouver, have confirmed that BC Minister for Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training, Shirley Bond, will deliver the event’s welcome address. The conference will provide a forum for Northwest yacht builders, refitters, designers, brokers, marinas and service providers to tackle issues and encourage growth in the industry.

Swiftsure Race Sails May 24-26
The 2014 Swiftsure International Yacht Race sails out of Victoria May 24-26. The weekend incorporates overnight and one-day races on four separate courses in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, including the 138-mile Swiftsure Lightship Classic to Swiftsure Bank, as well as pre- and post-race festivities in Victoria.

BC Yacht Brokers Host Victoria Harbour Show May 1-4
The BC Yacht Brokers Association hosts the annual Victoria Harbour Boat Show Thursday-Sunday, May 1-4 in the city’s scenic and historic Inner Harbour. 2014 Georgian Bay Regatta to Start from Big Sound Marina
The Georgian Bay Regatta (GBR) is one of the most unique sailing events in Ontario. On an annual basis for the past 27 years, a fleet of 40 to 50 boats have participated in this week-long adventure of racing and cruising various areas of Georgian Bay. As the itinerary of the GBR encompasses a combination of daily distance races, course races, nightly anchorages and visits to the various ports-of-call on the shores of Georgian Bay, it draws the interest of all levels of sailors to this yearly summer event.
