Tern’s shop is located on the Gold River Marina property and in their large building shed I found these two centenarian ladies getting ready for the racing season. In the foreground is the P class sloop Hayseed IV, a William Gardner design built in 1912, which has been sailing in NS waters since the early 1920s, next to her is Virginia a Q class built 1913.
The Quebec Marine Association (QMA) invites boating enthusiasts on February 5th-8th, 2015 at the 16th edition of the Montreal Boats and Water Sports’ Show. This year is once again marked by a most festive atmosphere, with an event that is expected to be more impressive in all aspects. The figures are enough to make your head spin: 275 exhibitors, more than 450 boats spread over an exhibition area of over 275,000 square feet which is 17 times the Bell Centre ice!

The awards banquet to celebrate the winners from the 2017 Lake Ontario Offshore Racing Lake Ontario 300 Challenge and the Susan Hood Trophy Race, was held at Port Credit Yacht Club on Saturday, November 11th.
In a warm-up event for the July 13 National Banks Easter Seals Charity Regatta in Vancouver, solo sailor Derek Hatfield treated a capacity crowd at Royal Vancouver YC to an inspiring presentation about his campaigns in three major single-handled round-the-world races. The only Canadian to race single-handed around the world twice, Hatfield has sailed more than 200,000 miles solo and completed two of his races with podium finishes. In his presentation, he described his preparation and experiences racing boats that were largely supported by thousands of individual Canadian donors, as well as glimpses into the wild world of solo racing in today’s high-tech IMOCA sailboats.
Tall Ships America set out to make its Tall Ships Challenge Atlantic Coast 2012 series, a success that would be remembered for years to come, and with the help of local organizers, the non-profit organization achieved its goal with flying colors. More than 20 member tall ships, representing six nations, traveled up the Eastern Seaboard this summer, participating in one or more maritime festivals in Savannah, Ga., Greenport, N.Y., Newport, R.I. and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Public participation trumped all expectations, as visitors thronged the waterfront to tour the ships and join a bi-national celebration of maritime heritage.
