CY Attends the 52nd Annual Antique Boat Show in Clayton New York

Clayton Antique Boat Show

August 8 2016

With camera in hand as always, Andy Adams, editor of Canadian Yachting magazine was on hand for the 52nd Annual Antique Boat Show held by the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton New York, August 5-7.

The Canadian contingent was in out in full force with a whole flotilla of disappearing propeller boats organized through the Dispro Owners Association and Mary Storey, the Dispro Owners Association president published  a detailed explanation of how William James Johnston [1881 – 1968] from Port Carling in the Muskoka Lakes District, invented the disappearing propeller boat. Her story in the show program explained  how he went into business building rowing skiffs and fitting them with engines as the inventor of the “disappearing propellor boat”.

Of course, the show attracted a host of magnificent boats including GarWoods, Hackercrafts, Centuries, Canadian-built Shepherd runabouts and many more. The weather was sunny and spectacular and as always, the Antique Boat Museum campus features several buildings of wonderful displays and historic information about boatbuilding in Canada and the United States.

The museum is open year round and if you are traveling or boating through the area, it’s well worth a visit! Go to www.ABM.org for information.
