Chester Race Week – August 14th to 17th, 2013
Perhaps one of the world’s best kept secrets is Chester Race Week, held in Chester, Nova Scotia, just a stone’s throw away from the bustling metropolis of Halifax. Chester Race Week (scheduled August 14-17, 2013) has been sailing since 1856 and in recent summers has had consistent entries of 130-150 yachts. The regatta is run on three different race courses within the confines of the waters of Mahone Bay, surrounded by beautiful pine-tree covered granite islands dotted throughout the bay. Sailing could not be more convenient, especially since the time to the race course (always a big consideration after a long evening out the night before with friends!) is usually 30 minutes maximum!
Race Week 2013 will take place from Wednesday, August 14th to Saturday, August 17th.
The Race Week Committee on the Land Side and the Water Side have been meeting since
September 2012 to plan for this year. We continue to be guided extensively by the responses we
get from the questionnaire that is sent out to participants. It is of the utmost importance that we
give you, the competitors, the Regatta you want.
As a result, there will be a few changes to CRW – 2013.
The Bravo fleet will sail windward/leeward and gold cup courses. In addition to the Bravo 1,
2 and 3 handicap classes, we plan to move the J/24’s and J/29’s from Alpha to Bravo. This will
shorten their steaming time to the race course.
We plan to add two distance classes to the Delta fleet. These will be round-the-buoys races, 15-
18 miles in length for boats rating over 100 PHRF. We will do what we can to position starts
and finishes where they can be seen from shore.
