2016 Sail West Championships at Gimli Yacht Club

Sail West

June 19, 2016

Less than one month to go until the 2016 Sail Canada Sail West Championships kick off at Gimli Yacht Club! The event will be taking place from July 13-17, in Gimli, Manitoba. This year, Sail West will act as a test event for the 2017 Canada Games. Sailors will put their skills to the test in the 29er, Optimist, 420, 2.4mR, Lightning, and Laser classes.

The Sail West Championships is a five day regatta comprised of three training days and two racing days. The three training days, up from two from last year’s event, offer a great opportunity for all participants to train amongst each other, while gaining advice and guidance from experienced coaches. Coaches will run on water training sessions for each class, group debriefs, and practice races over the three training days. Sailors will have the opportunity to learn from one another and gain experience training in a big fleet environment.

Gimli Yacht Club is located on the shores of Lake Winnipeg, where its location was used as the site for the 1967 Pan Am Games. The Club is responsible for promoting and facilitating both recreational and competitive sailing in the heart of Gimli, Manitoba.

Do not miss out on the opportunity to compete at the 2016 Sail Canada Sail West Championships! Take advantage of the Early Bird Fee until July 1st, 2016.

Spotted! Canadian Boating in Antigua & Barbuda

By Mathew Channer

Antigua Sailing Week is an international regatta that draws sailors of every level and spectators from all over the world. Yet I couldn’t walk across a room without being hailed by a Canadian who was as excited to see my cap as they were to see the racing. I met many who were on their 3rd, 4th and 5th visit.
