SALTS Shifts Berths

Sail and Life Training Society (SALTS) has relocated its office, moorage and maintenance facilities from its home of nearly 25 years at Hope Point Shipyard on Victoria’s Upper Harbour. The shipyard is slated for redevelopment that will no longer accommodate SALTS. The office has moved to 451 Herald Street above the Canoe Brewpub in a brick-and timber-heritage building that once housed the coal-powered electric generators that powered Victoria's streetlights. The office overlooks Canoe Marina, where the society’s tall ships will moor in winter and donated vessels will moor year-round. The ships will continue to operate from Ship Point Wharf during sailing season. SALTS’ maintenance and storage shop has moved to 539 David Street in the Rock Bay industrial district.

More than 1,700 young people aged 13 to 25 sail with SALTS each year on its schooners Pacific Swift and Pacific Grace. The society is currently fundraising for a third training ship and hopes to begin construction soon, when it will lease a construction site.
