CYA Changes Name to SAIL Canada

The Canadian Yachting Association’s annual general meeting concluded October 27 with a vote to change the association's name. Delegates voted overwhelmingly in support of changing the name of the 74-year-old organization to SAIL Canada, enabling the national organization to align its positioning with many other national governing bodies in the sport of sailing.

The move is part of a renewed effort to coordinate its training, coaching, judging and high-performance disciplines to allow it to better brand, build and grow awareness of the sport throughout Canada.

The AGM included an impressive task list for delegates representing all disciplines of the sport. Executive directors and provincial presidents attended alongside their training, officials and judges and high-performance colleagues.

Another highlight included a solid review of Canada's high-performance team by Ken Dool, high-performance director. SAIL Canada is taking steps to address its disappointing results at the 2012 London Olympics with a positive approach, including a gold-medal pathway, emphasis on coach development, and a disciplined approach to identifying and nurturing talent.

SAIL Canada will remain headquartered in Kingston, Ontario
