Eight Bells: Designer Ray Wall

Ray Wall

Dec 21, 2023

We salute the recent passing on Vancouver Island of Ray Wall at 91 who designed the CS36, CS33 and CS 27 and the Quanta 28.

When Brampton builder CS Yachts launched the CS27 in 1975, it was a giant step towards becoming one of this country’s big three builders.  Ray Wall, who drew the 27 while he was employed with Camper and Nicholsons, moved to Canada in 1977 and was responsible for the CS36 (500 built including Merlin) and the CS33 (450 built) during his subsequent tenure as chief designer at the CS Brampton plant supervising construction and working on future models.

He moved to Vancouver BC in 1984 and set up Quanta Yachts.
