New products: JBL unit withstands harsh conditions

JBL Stereo

On the water audiophile-quality sound is attainable with the new JBL-R3500 source unit. The latest in the WAKE Series of stereo components from Prospec Electronics is loaded with user-friendly features and built to withstand the harshest weather.

Beyond AM/FM and weather band reception, the JBL-R3500 provides a wide range of playback options. It offers USB and aux inputs, and Bluetooth® BT5.0 with ID streaming. The key advantages of BT5.0 over the prior BT generation are data speed and greater range.

The JBL-R3500 offers a fresh, new look to outdoor stereos and can be flush- or back-mounted. Its rotary encoder accent ring and power button are illuminated and ergonomically placed for instant access and ease of use. A wide 4″ LCD display provides the black and white contrast needed for it to be clearly seen in any light condition.

When it comes to sound, the JBL-R3500 packs a punch. The built-in amplifier delivers 4×40 watts RMS @ 4 ohms with 4×55 peak @ 4 ohms. Two-ohm stable, it powers eight speakers without an additional amplifier, yet has a set of pre-outs if one is desired. These numbers translate into the ability to accurately produce sufficient volume to be heard over the roar of an engine or a crowd.

Engineered to fit on the smallest dash, the JBL-R3500’s faceplate measures 6.4″ L x 2.9″ H; installation requires 4.25″ of depth. The front is UV-resistant and IPX6-rated waterproof; the rear is IPX3. Available from Prospec Electronics, it costs $299.95.
