There is no limit to travel on a No Limit Ship

Recently while admiring the boats in Victoria Harbour my eyes locked into a 58ft yacht named SeaWolf that I just couldn’t take my eyes off. The fit and finish on this strikingly unique yacht was like a magnet I just had to stop and talk to the owners. Bob and Pat Teichrob, members of the Canadian Power Squadron, were the proud owners of a brand-new 58ft No Limit Ship from Holland. The unique safety feature of this recreational yacht is that it’s self-righting. Having spent about two and half hours talking to Pat and Bob about their yacht, I was intrigued by their story about how they came to by their yacht. So here is what Pat had to say in your own words.

“Bob and I have been boaters for over 35 years (both sail and motor), and have sailed on the East Coast of Canada and many lakes. We’ve spent the last 10 years in the Pacific North West exploring just about every nook and cranny between Victoria and the Broughton’s on our beloved 32′ Eaglecraft.

The decision to purchase a larger boat (about 5 years ago) took us down the ‘trawler-style’ road.  We travelled to Florida, Rhode Island, as well as Washington State, and many Canadian points in between, looking for the perfect ‘fit’ for us. (engine room layout was critical to Bob, while galley and storage, as well as a functional roomy stateroom, was important to me).  It soon became apparent that that criteria would come into the picture later, as it became more and more evident to us that we did not want to compromise speed, for size.  Once that decision was made, it was back to the drawing board, looking for a bigger, more comfortable boat, that could get us safely out of bad weather with speed.  Meanwhile, time is ticking away on us. 

About three years ago we heard about three men who took their 50ft No Limit Ship from Holland, through the Orkney Islands, around Iceland and Greenland, to Newfoundland, then down the Eastern Seaboard, to present their vessel at the 2017 Miami International Boat Show.  We followed their adventure with much interest and thought that any boat that is capable of that kind of journey is worth a look.  So off we went to the Miami boat show.  It took all of about 20 minutes onboard to appreciate the fit, finish, attention to detail, that was evident wherever your eye landed.  To say we were impressed was an understatement.  But once we got back to Canada, I thought that surely, we can find a boat that fits our criteria, already built and ready to go. So, we took more time to continue the search and time was still ticking away.

During this time the builders of No Limit Ships contacted us and said that the feedback they received at the Miami Boat Show was that the No Limit Ship design would be perfect for the Pacific North West.  We couldn’t have agreed more.  Why?  Top speed of 26+/- knots, custom design both in the engine room layout and living quarters. The deal was struck and we took the plunge and signed on to build SEAWOLF with a mind to introduce her at the 2020 Vancouver International Boat Show. 

The builder took all of our requests and not only met them, but exceeded them.  They are too numerous to list.  But at the top of our list was safety (Seawolf is CE Class A Certified), speed (she’ll make 26 knots), range (we can travel 4,000 miles at displacement speed) and comfort.  Below deck and working forward, she has a single full beam state room, with “full size” king bed, in fact, exact same mattress that we have at home!), a forward salon with an entertainment centre, ships office, guest head and forward storage pantry (with freezer). Above decks, she features a full-sized galley, fridge/freezer combo and separate drinks fridge, settee to sit 6 and helm station with fully redundant electronics suite including 3 X Raymarine Axiom XL MFD 19″ screens, integrated Flir infrared camera and weather station.  We decided on a single stateroom primarily because it didn’t make sense to us to dedicate so much “expensive” real estate below decks to additional state rooms that rarely, if ever, get used and ultimately turn into storage space. For open, ocean blue water cruising we can accommodate additional personnel in both the salon and wheel house.

There is so much to talk about regarding vessel design and utility … from inception to delivery this was an awesome journey – we can’t overstate how excellent the folks at No Limits were to work with – Peter Weirenga headed the project up – it’s always a treat to deal with someone who is as knowledgeable and as switched on as he is.  We were able to incorporate many of our ideas into the build and were, at times, gently nudged away from some not-so-good ideas as well!  We owe much thanks to Reg Dykhuizen of Advance Marine in Campbell River (THE Volvo Penta dealer In the PNW!). Our thoughts were, since Reg was going to be our primary service provider in Canada it made sense to involve him in engine room layout and component accessibility design considerations.  

We really feel SEAWOLF is a welcome addition to the PNW and are looking forward to putting many miles under her hull and making many memories aboard.”
