The Port of Everett Marina in Washington State, the largest publicly operated marina on the West Coast, was among more than 20 marinas nation-wide considered for the prestigious industry award. Recent in-water and upland developments, quality customer service, high environmental standards, community and industry engagement and unique special events were among the attributes bringing Port of Everett’s ranking to the top.

“The Port of Everett is so much more than its 2,300 slips, which is an incredible amount of boaters to serve,” Marina Dock Age Editor Anna Townshend said. “Beyond all those vessels and the boatyard, it’s a local public treasure for anyone that wants to enjoy the waterfront. Not many marinas may be as big as the Port of Everett, but everyone can take away something from its amazing operation.”

Since the early 2000s, the Port of Everett has invested more than $165 million into its destination waterfront, including its multi-million-dollar effort to strategically recapitalize its marina facilities, clean up historic contamination from years of industry on the waterfront and work toward the full build out of its 65-acre mixed-use Waterfront Place development.

The Marina consists of three areas: South Docks, Central Docks and North Docks. Our facilities offer 10 visitor moorage docks, upland boat and gear storage options, a fuel dock, laundry and shower facilities, and a full service marine Craftsman District with a state-of-the-art, environmentally sound boatyard, a haul out pier with a 75-ton Travelift and 35-ton Travelift, a 60-ton boat transporter, boom truck, forklift and tug boat services, a washdown facility, and a mix of on-site marine related retail and repair services. Additionally, the Port operates a 13-lane boat launch — the largest boat launch in Washington state — with ample parking and quick access to abundant fishing, crabbing and shrimping.

Marina facilities are judged on exemplary business practices in many categories, including business operations, facility improvements, advertising/marketing, environmental responsibility, community involvement and more.

“Earning this title is such an honor,” said Jeff Lindhout, Port of Everett Chief of Marina Operations. “This award is a true testament of the collective effort our team puts in every day to better serve our slip holders, visiting boaters and the greater Everett community in support of our vision to create a vibrant and welcoming waterfront that balances industry and recreation.”

“I feel very humbled to have received one of the Young Leader Awards,” Port of Everett Communications Specialist Kate Anderson said. “It’s great to see so many young people getting more involved in the recreational marine industry, as they are the next generation of boating.”

The Marina is complemented by the surrounding benefits of the Port’s destination waterfront, better known as Waterfront Place. The 65-acre mixed-use property leverages both upland and in-water amenities creating a place for residents and boaters to live, work and play. The waterfront features fine and casual dining restaurants, a distillery, two waterfront hotels, yacht brokerage, office, commercial and retail spaces, and coming soon, 266 apartment homes. This area is also home to more than 1,500 acres of public access including Jetty Island – the longest sandy beach in the Puget Sound – four miles of continuous waterfront trail, picnic shelters, parks and plazas, a splash fountain, and year-round special events including waterfront concerts, outdoor movies, car shows, art festivals and more.

Sailing into the Future at Antigua Sailing Week

By Mathew Channer

“Standby tack,” Canadian sailor Katy Campbell orders. The crew scrambles over the sheet lines and braces on the deck.

“Three, two, one, tack!”

I wait until the bow turns into the wind and the headsail snaps over, then crawl over the cabin top of Panacea X to the now windward side. The trim team smoothly sheets on the headsail and a competitor vessel shoots past our stern, feet away, as our Solana 45 beats eastward along Antigua’s south coast.
