CY goes up the Shannon
May 23, 2019
Galley Guys John Armstrong and Greg Nicoll and their spice (spouses?) stop for a pint at Seans Bar, the oldest pub in Ireland, in Athlone on the River Shannon in the Republic of Ireland.
When Canadian boaters explore the rest of of the world, it’s frequently aboard a vessel of some sort. Canadian Yachting’s Galley Guy mainstays Greg and John got away prior to launching their own boats, heading to the Emerald Isle for some river explorations on a Le Boat charter.
Heading across the Atlantic, the Guys embarked at Carrick-on-Shannon, the historic county town of County Leitrim in Ireland. Carrick-on-Shannon was granted a royal charter and named a borough with its own seal in 1607.
Along the way, they viewed history, explored this dynamic waterway, drank in Ireland’s oldest pub and create a special Canadian Yachting feature, to be shared in a winter issue of CY. Another good reason to get a Canadian Yachting subscription!
