Cape Breton Island

Baddeck Marine
Mar 22, 2016

Cape Breton Island has been in the news lately as a possible escape destination for Americans fleeing a possible Trump presidency. Why not beat the rush by sailing the beautiful Bras d’Or lakes before the fall US election. The Race the Cape event is on again for this year and race organiser Jennifer Rowe says they are getting a very strong response to early registration. There is much to attract boaters of every stripe. We’ll feature various companies and locations in upcoming newsletters.

Baddeck is the largest town on the lakes and has full range of service available from Baddeck Marine and the Cape Breton Boatyard. The Lions Club Marina located in St. Peters is also a great starting point for a cruise of the lakes. Both Baddeck and St. Peters have good launch ramps.

The new Ben Eoin Yacht Club & Marina is located on the south shore of the East Bay of the Bras d’Or Lakes, a 25 minute drive from downtown Sydney. With 75 berths (68 slips and 7 visitors berths), it is the largest marina on the Bras d’Or Lakes.   Guests can relax in their clubhouse, sit on the deck overlooking the marina and lakefront or watch TV, check their email or surf the web in the clubhouse lounge. You can even book a round of golf at the neighbouring 18 hole championship golf course, The Lakes Golf Club, one of Graham Cooke’s world class designs featuring stunning views of the Bras d’Or Lakes.
