New Marina Development Slated for Nanaimo Waterfront

Harbour Homes

Work is about to start on a new marina and float home development on Nanaimo’s Newcastle Channel. Harbour Homes Marina is planned to include up to 145 boat slips from approximately 20 to 80’ in length, and 60 custom float homes.

The development is on the former Nanaimo Shipyard property. Developer Scott Valliere says the project will begin with environmental remediation and dock construction.

“We are starting to build our docks right away and the float homes will begin in about four months,” says Valliere. The full development will be completed in stages over the next five years, Valliere adds.

The marina is located at 1100 Stewart Avenue and faces Newcastle Island Marine Park, across the channel (see aerial photo). The site is about a 10-minute walk along the seawall from shops and businesses in downtown Nanaimo, and near the city’s float plane and BC Ferry terminals.

Nanaimo and Southeast Vancouver Island face the same shortage of moorage as other areas on BC’s South Coast, so the new marina is already generating interest in the local boating community.
